Happy New Year, Modeling 101 Readers!!!

Yeah, yeah, I know...I'm late with the New Year's wishes, lol, but I took some days off to be completely lazy. Not to mention the modeling and acting gigs dried up for the holiday season. As much as I'm a workaholic, many more clients preferred to take vacations and leave projects for another day, haha. Understandable but I was bouncing off the walls out of boredom.

What saved the day was booking a promo commercial for a new app about a week ago. The commercial will be posted on the company's website but they're also considering buying airtime for it to appear on television in Chicago (where the company is based). I had a great time and really missed being in front of the camera. However, I did do other shoots over the past few months that I didn't get a chance to post about.

So I figured why not share them here?

Although I've already shared these photos as my blog header, below are the images from a cosmetics shoot I did for the Jira Couture Cosmetics company:

So that was the latter part of 2012 for me before things got slow. However, now that Christmas and New Year's Eve are out of the way, it seems people are geared up to get ready for business again. I've already submitted to a handful of castings and am steadily hearing back from clients so I have no doubt that my 2013 will soon be full of new projects I can share with you all!

Hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to adding even more blog posts to Modeling 101 and having you all along for the ride! Welcome, also, to my newest readers/subscribers...I truly enjoy seeing the number of subscribers continue to grow each week!

Hi! I'm currently 14 years old and I'd like to start getting involved in print/commercial modeling. As of the last time I measured myself a couple months ago I'm only 5'4'' and I happen to have braces. (bummer) Do you think I should wait until I get my braces off (which will be in 2016) before I contact agencies? By then I'd be 15 but it's possible I'd grow the 3/4 of an inch i need to reach 5'5''. Also, I was wondering if you could possibly suggest some agencies around me and any tips for getting started? I'm completely new to the industry (I live in West Covina, CA by the way). Thanks in advance and I hope you have an amazing year! :)

Male Models & Height

(This particular post is in reference to male models seeking to do fashion and runway modeling only, not commercial/print.) So I realize that many of my posts are directed at female models because, well, there are so many of them out there! But I do acknowledge and recognize the male models out there, too, and believe me I do my best to try and squeeze in posts that relate to you guys as well. Modeling and Weight

One of the first things I hear potential models ask is what the weight requirement for modeling is. Sometimes that is the main issue they worry about when it comes to pursuing modeling. Let me tell you right now that weight should NOT be one of those concerns. Obviously, the height requirement reigns supreme when measuring up to the modeling standards sought out by agencies. If you meet the height requirements--whether it's for fashion and runway or commercial/print--that is the first step towards starting on the path to modeling. How much you weigh shouldn't be your biggest fear. It is rare that anyone can look at someone and say, "Oh, my gosh, he/she looks like they are 5 pounds over our weight requirement!" It just isn't realistic. If you look at many modeling agency websites, they clearly list the age and height requirements--rarely, if at all do they list any weight restrictions.
