Before going in to a casting or go-see, do a quick check to see that your fingernails are clean and neat. They don't have to be manicure perfect but it's best if they're at least free of dirt/grime under your nails. You never know if the client/photographer is going to take a photo of your hands. There's been times when I went to a go-see and out of the blue, the photographer has asked me to hold up both of my hands so that he can take a picture for the client. This is usually done if the shoot being cast for will be showing your hands in the final images (i.e. using certain items like a cell phone).
You may be well groomed from head to toe but grimy nails could end up getting the unwanted attention of the client instead of your face. To play it safe, I carry a nail file in my purse that has a sharp end so that I can do a quick cleaning beforehand--you'd be surprised by how dirt can creep up under your nails when you least expect it!
