Want to Be a Victoria's Secret Model?

(*Due to the number of comments and questions I get from aspiring models about working for VS, please be sure to read my post on this very carefully. If you don't meet all of these requirements then you cannot become a model for VS. If you are not tall enough, if you are not signed to a top agency, your chances are not good.

If you don't meet the requirements, please don't be too upset about it. Find another field of modeling you may be good for. There are plenty of other modeling opportunities for models outside of being a VS angel. They may not be as good or as well-known as VS but it's better than nothing.)

I know I’d jump at the chance to be offered a gig modeling for Victoria’s Secret (although I think they’d be irritated by Photoshopping my stretch marks HAHA, yeah, I said it, I’ve got stretch marks!). All silliness aside, the gals of Victoria’s Secret are probably the inspiration for a majority of aspiring models out there. Not only do they get to wear the sexiest, most sought after lingerie, apparel and swimwear in the country (if not the world), they are exotic beauties that actually (gasp!) look fairly healthy. That’s what won points with me.

So how does one go about becoming one of the biggest sex symbols on the planet? Not by conventional means, unfortunately. Is it as simple as going to the Victoria’s Secret headquarters and hoping you’ll catch someone’s eye? Not even close. Do you just have to fill out some application and send a headshot? Nope (they won’t even accept headshots, no matter how wonderful it looks). So what’s an aspiring Victoria’s Secret model to do?

The bad news is that Victoria’s Secret does not select its future Angels from just any modeling agency in the country. They go for the best. Almost every Victoria’s Secret model recruited is already represented by Ford Models or Elite Models in New York--these two are the go-to-agencies for VS. Not signed with either?

Then your only other chance is to be a top model represented by another top modeling agency. But—and there is a but—not all hope is lost. Simply get signed to Elite or Ford in New York (sorry, other Ford and Elite locations most likely don't count). Hmmm…that sounds easier said than done, doesn’t it? That’s because it is. As far-fetched as it may seem, it isn’t impossible. Not easy, but definitely not impossible.

To make things more clear about the requirements you have to meet in order to put you in the VS category, you must:

- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be between 5'8"-6'0" (these days 5'9" is the preferred minimum height at agencies in NYC)
- Have a killer body with curves (not waif thin like most runway models but not exactly plus size, either)
- Be signed to a top modeling agency (preferably Ford or Elite in New York) or another top modeling agency in New York

If you have the height, measurements, exotic looks and drive, you may have what it takes to get signed by Elite or Ford. And even then it isn't automatic consideration by VS. These models have worked their way up the ranks and the more work and exposure you get, the better your chances are of catching VS's eye.

Once that’s in place and you’ve got a contract, it could just be a matter of time before Victoria’s Secret contacts your booking agent and you’ve got just about every model hopeful’s dream job (and every father’s worst nightmare…LOL).

Ford and Elite aren't the only two agencies you have to be signed with the top agencies. Adriana Lima is signed with DNA and that is one of the top agencies in the world. Plus they have to work their way up. That being said I don't know of anyone who is a VS Model who did not work their way up.
Dania Denise said…
Actually, Adriana Lima was first signed to Elite when she got on board with Victoria's Secret. She has since then moved on to DNA.

Actually, it's not always true model Doutzen Kroes walked for the VS Runway twice, is in the works of becoming a VS Angel and is with DNA Models.
Dania Denise said…
This is true. For exceptional models not signed to Ford or Elite, VS does contract out models for their VS modeling gigs who belong to other agencies. But VS first and foremost goes to Ford and Elite for their VS models as then considers other models who may catch their eye but are not signed to those agencies.

Hey! I've wanted to be a Victoria Secret model since i was little girl and seen all the great stuff you all get to do! I've have done a little run way modling for my aunt and love it! Ive also been infront of the camera alot for my sister who wants to become and is on her way to becoming a profeshonal photogrefer. The pictures look grate and i love dressing up! Ive also seen EVERY epesode of Americas Next Top Model! But im only 13 but want to get started now! Is there any Victoria Secret jobs for girls girls my age! Can i get sighed at my age?
Dania Denise said…
Hi, Macy! At your age you cannot do any lingerie or swimwear that is like Victoria's Secret. You're only allowed to that type of modeling when you are 18 or older. But you can do high fashion stuff, especially if you already have the height (5'8" and taller or a stunning 5'7"). Some agencies sign girls as young as 13 while others prefer them to be at least 14-15. Start looking up agencies near you and send photos. That's the only way you'll find out but you won't be able to pursue the VS stuff until you're older. Hope that helps!

Hello, Caroline, and thank you for your comment and for reading. While you sound very passionate and dedicated to wanting to become a Victoria's Secret model, you do not meet the height requirements. You have to be between 5'8"-6'0" and signed to either Elite or Ford in New York or be signed to another top modeling agency. Other than that, I am afraid you will not be able to model for VS.
Caroline said…
Hey, My name's Caroline and it's been my dream to become a VS model. I'm only 12 but my measurements are : 33"24"35 and I'm already 5'7". I've been planning to go to an open call at Ford. One problem (besides my age): My parents are a tad protective to say the least, and would probably disinherit me or something if they knew what I wanted to do. Do you have any suggestions as to what I could do to convince them that maybe modeling isn't the worst thing in the world? Thanks so much!

Hey is there such a thing as being to tall to model VS?
I am 186cm which is just over 6' and i am the measurements required, i also have longer legs than torso which i think is what they look for?
The issues for me are that I am from New Zealand, and in no way afford to go to New York for a casting with an agency. I am also 22, and is this too old to begin modelling?

I wasnt really into it untill recently being spotted by an australiasian fashion label, but I have no work but a few runways under my belt.

What are the chances for a girl like me?

Hey, Anonymous! If you read the post that you commented on it says how to become a VS model. Your best bet is to get signed to either a top fashion agency in the Florida area or in the New York area.

Good luck!

Hey! I'm 14 years old.. almost 15, and I have wanted to be a Victoria's Secret model/angel for the longest time. I've already had some print experience for International companies, as well as American companies. But not any runway experience at all. Now that I am taller then I was when I last was discovered by an agent, I'm going to be talking to agents in New York that liked me while I was younger but wasn't tall enough. I'm about 5"8 now, very skinny, but from looking at the current VS angels, especially Rosie or Miranda, I do seem to have the correct body type. It has been said that I have an exotic look, but are natural freckles (not sun damage) be anything that they would be interested in? I am pretty fair skinned with semi-dark brown hair. With that aside, I weigh around 100 pounds and by the time I am 18, I'll probably weigh a little more and have more shape.

With that said, would print and runway experience before trying to become a VS model (or trying to sign with a top agency) help me? (If that made sense.) Thank you very much!

Hi! This is anna again! You said i had potential and they might be willing to overlook the slight height issue; I am currently filling out info for Ford and Elite, my question is, what kind of pose should i do for the pictures? It asks for a 3/4 profile shot, shoulder up, waist up, and full length. Should I be smiling, or attempting to appear like a professional model? Also, would it be bad to send in for both at the same time, or should I just do one, see what happens, then try the second? Finally, if it doesn't work out, which agency would you suggest as a backup plan? Thanks again so much for your help!! You are honestly the help I needed to pursue this dream!

If I get signed with Ford or Elite, do I have to move to NYC? What if I can't afford to live there, but get signed with them? Also, if it doesn't work out, is Wilhelmina of PA and other "branch" agencies a scam? Or is it a safe starting point as a model? I have looked at their models and I am much skinnier and taller than a lot of them, which concerns me...aren't all fashion models generally around the same size? Finally, I am concerned about having dance experience...I saw an interview and apparently Adriana, Candice, and Lindsay were all very talented dancers before they began modeling. Thanks!

Hey Dania, I'm Nicole and I've wanted to be a model since I was about seven (I'm 13 now) but I wanted to know if it will help to start trying to look for modeling agencies now or wait until I'm about fifteen. I have no experience at all and I live in Michigan, do you know of any good places for me look in to? Also I know that this is kind of random but were you in cheer leading? I am but I don't know if it will help (not with a career but keeping my figure). My friends keep saying that I have an amazing hour glass figure but I don't know if that's what modeling agencies are looking for. Plus my parents are really overprotective (it took me three months to convince them to let me wear a bikini!!!), is there any way I can convince them that modeling is not as bad as they think it is before I have to move out from going crazy living with them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks.

Hi, Tia,

If you read the post you just commented on, it says specifically that you will need to be signed to either Elite Models or Ford Models in New York...or another top fashion agency in the New York area. This means you'll have to visit those agency websites to see how to submit your images and info in order to get signed. That is how you will be considered as a potential VS model.

Dania,
Hello.. My name is Jessika, I'm from Florida and I have always dreamed of being a Victoria Secret Model. I'm going to be 21 in four months and I'm like inbetween 5'8 and 5'9. I have been in a size 00, 0, & 1 since like 9th grade. Lol. To my understanding, I have to try to get signed with Elite or Ford modeling company? I tried John Robert Powers or Robert John Powers a few years ago and they wanted me. They were going to pay for me. That's what is supposed to happen, correct? I didn't do it because they wouldn't pay for my cousin, but now I know that that was a huge mistake. Or is JRP not a well enough known agency? Everyone that I work with keeps telling me that I need to be a VS Model. What else could I do to possibly even get considered for a casting?

Hi there,
My name is Alexis, I am 18 years old, and I live in Portland, Oregon. I am 5'10, and my measurements are 33-24-34. I was recruited by Elite Models in Portland, and actually got to meet with the "man in charge" of the New York Elite. They were very interested in me and he told me I have absolutely gorgeous eyes. They took my information and told me to come back after my braces came off. That was about a year and a half ago, and my braces are now off!! My question for you is if I do end up getting signed by Elite, will I have to move to New York in order to have any chance at working for Victoria's Secret? Also, does the agency suggest models to VS when they are looking for new ones? Or do they look at all of the models in the particular agency? Let me know. Thank you so much for your time!! It is much appreciated :)

Hi Dania, my name is Tu Linh. I have a lot of things to ask you.
I'm Asian and do you think i can be a supermodel? I don't want to make fake noses though :-(.
I'm 9 and about to turn 10.
I don't think that modeling classes are in my country but what does exactly a modeling class does? Like Alessandra, she took modeling classes and...you can read it on Wikipedia.
This part" Ambrósio was just eight years old when she decided that she wanted to be a model, after seeing a picture of top covergirl Karen Mulder in a magazine: "I wanted to be like her", she recalls.[citation needed] She enrolled at a modelling class at the age of 12 and at the age of 14 she was one of 20 finalists for an elite modelling competition in Brazil.[8]" and this part"When Ambrosio was 12 years old, she enrolled in modeling classes, then began modeling for Dilson Stein at age 15.[8][11] Winning Brazil's Elite Model Look started her modeling career in earnest.[3] Her first notable modeling job was the cover of Brazilian Elle magazine.[1] Elite passed along some of her Polaroids to Guess which led her booking the Millennium GUESS? campaign along with friend and fellow Brazilian Ana Beatriz Barros.[12] She has since appeared in advertisements for brands like Revlon, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, and Ralph Lauren, as well as the Pirelli Calendar.[8][13] She has walked the catwalks for designers such as Prada, Chanel, and Oscar de la Renta.[8][11] She has appeared in numerous international magazine covers, including Cosmopolitan, Elle, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Ocean Drive, Vogue and the only model to appear on the cover of Glamour in the United States in 2006.[3][7]
In 2004, Ambrosio launched her line of swimwear called Alessandra Ambrosio by Sais, a division of Rosa Chá. It sold 10,000 units in only its first month on the market.[11][14][15]
Ambrosio was the face for the UK company Next[16] and starred in their first television campaign in 12 years.[17] She is also signed to Storm Model Management in London.[citation needed]
On the July, 2009 cover of Marie Claire, Ambrosio appeared in a spread with Sacha Baron Cohen to promote Baron Cohen's 2009 film Brüno.[18]
Ambrosio, became the face of Brazilian sportswear brand Colcci costarring with Ashton Kutcher in a steamy denim ad.[19] She was ranked No. 5 on Forbes' The World's Top-Earning Models list, with an estimated earnings of $5 million over the past 12 months (2010–2011).[19]
In October 2011, Ambrosio became Vogue's blogger, commenting on her wardrobe by posting one photo of herself each day for a month.[20]"
say that she took modeling class, and did she sign or what to start modeling for Dilston Stein? And how did she really end up at Victoria's Secret? Like you said which is the best agency? And after being signed ,they just take us to do photo shoot or what? Please answer, PLEASE!!!If at the age of 12-13 can I be signed , then when i get older can i change to Victoria's? They said that Candice was spotted when she was 15, but she just walk and took photos and then changed to Victoria's? How did she change to Victoria's Secret? And how did she became an angel then? Did she said to the agency to change or what? PLEASE ANSWER. And give me your email please I'd love to ask more about it.
Tu Linh said…
And do i have to call the agency and come there to sign or, i really don't understand this. Or do i have to go on their website to post the picture of me and do you know the number?

Hi! I am 18 and i wanted to know if i had a chance to become a VS model! i have always loved watching the fashion shows and every time i have watched them i always want to be a VS model! i have also always like watching americas next top model! I have never modeled before though so i have no experience! i am also 5'6 and I am athletic and play sports so i am in good shape and skinny. But, i have always had somewhat big thighs does that matter!? and i dont really know my measurements either. i have brown hair, brown eyes, and im just an american girl, and i have tan skin! I have been told by many people that i am gorgeous and i could model if i wanted to but i never really believed them. but now i would like to model! do you think i have any chance of being able to be a VS model!?

Hello! I'm 18 years old and live in Calgary Alberta Canada. I've been scouted twice by a small agency in my hometown called numa models, and scouted 3 or 4 times by mode models. However I haven't really done anything to pursue a career in modeling even though I would love to. I know Heather Marks is signed with mode models, as well as Simon Nessman. Do you think this modeling agency could be considered a 'top' agency?

Thank you :)

Hey Dania! My name is Cheyenne, I have been working at becoming a model for a while now. (I have never been turned down) I have the looks, the body, the size, everything except I am 5'5" :(. My hardest part is all the stretches and exercise I do every day to grow just a little. My question is I live out in Los Angeles and I want to get signed by Ford, I know the ideal spot to move onto VS is Ford Modeling in New York, but just how hard is it to get hired from the one in Los Angeles? Is it nearly imposible or if I work super hard, is it posible?
Thank You!

Hi Dania, when i saw your post it made me curious as to what the top agencies are. BMG has been trying to get me to sign with them, and anyway, I would just like to know if they qualify as one of the better agencies. maybe not top or anything, but its general ranking. thanks so much:)

Hi I'm 15 years old, and i know probably a million girls have said this, but i have the very exotic look, just recently got a curvy body with really long thin legs and I'm a size 2 everywhere but my bust (which is know to big to fit most dresses)! I almost have the height as i am 5'6 and a half but apparently I;m supposed to be 5'10 when I'm fully grown.....I am with a small agency in Toronto right now and was just wondering if it is worth looking into New York right now, or if i should wait to see if i grow to 5'8.

Let me know what you have to say and please don't lie so I don't feel bad.

Hi :) im Sarelle and i have some questions for you. Ive always wanted to be a model and my what seems like has been my whole life people have been telling me to do it and i never felt like i could. I felt like i should ask a real model what i should do and then all of a sudden i found your blog so i made one so i could ask you questions. I would love to be a VS model of course but i feel that is way out of my league. Im a little over 5'8" im 18 and my measurements are 34 28 38. Im trying to really do this so im enrolled in Barbizon for modeling. I am wondering if your actual weight itself matters or just the way you look? and what do people look for because ive seen some pretty unattractive people in magazines so it makes me wonder if its just because of the fact that they are really skinny or is that what they were looking for. like you what i love about the whole VS thing is that they look healthy and thats my main thing i want to do this the right way, no short cuts. my thing is though is that i just dont think i can do it. im not fat but im not model skinny i just want to know what needs to be done i guess. i dont think im making any sense at all so if im not just let me know and ill try to clarify. i hope to hear a reply soon, thank you :)

Hey, I want to be a Victoria Secrets model. But I'm only 13. So what are some other modeling agencies that I can do before I Vs?
Anonymous said…
Hi! This is Josefin from Sweden again , i wrote a comment earlier today but i was in a hurry and forgot alot! I can't see what i've already asked and i rather ask twice then never, so i'm sorry if you have to answer the same questions again!

As i wrote in the other letter, ever since a saw the VS show 2010-2011, i has been obsessed with them. I almost actually felt like i was in heaven when i walked in to the store... Right when i know we where going to Miami i looked up stores (VS) becasuse we don't have them in Sweden. Ok, you don't need to hear my hole lifestory, so down to the questions.

#1. Does your grades matter at all? Do they take a look at them or doesn't it mean ANYTHING at all? For i know it's a modell industry, put is it like, a pluss if you have good grades and known for getting in time and to what you're asked to do?

#2. Feet. Ha-ha.. A pretty wierd question but hey, why not ask? Do the big modeling agencies care about your shoesize? Haha i understand if you don't know but it would just be funny to know? If you have size 36 (Europe) would that look silly or a size 45, would that look to clumpsy? I think that they are thinking about it really, but i wonder what you think as a modell your self, how much they would care ;)

#3. Do they care about if you get tanned easy or is as white as snow? Because when i've looked at pictures almost ALL of the models in VS are reeaally tanned.. :) Just another just funny thing to know!

And i want to say that i love what you're doing! You're helping other people to reach for there dreams. You can be the persons who are helping people to begin there careers. So thanks, for doing what you do, you're such an inspiration!

#4. Piercing. It's probably different for different agencies, but over all, can you have piercing or is that something you should remove? Like a belly button piercing and earpiercing i understood, that that could be okey, but what about nose piercing, eyebrow piercing and stuff in your face?

#5. Does your hair matter , how long it is or how it's quality is? Because i know it's better to have healthy hair, but if you have bad hair on the other hand, they could just put in hairextanchins (i can't spell i know)...

Some questions are pretty un nessasary, you might think but i see this as a great oppertunity!

#6. I'm short to be a model, at least a runway model, i'm just 164, even tough i'm not finished growing yet cus' i'm just 14. I'm not asking if they do any exeption, but i was wondering, if you are really short as me, do they give you a shot to see if you're like , crazy talented, or won't they like even let you in, i'm talking about the big agencies now.

#7. Another thing i was wondering, do most agencies care about if you smoke? If you do, is it bad or good? Because in many magazins i saw the girl on the cover holding a cigarett, is that just fake or is it a plus, to be able to do what there asking for? Because i don't smoke and think that it's good cus' many of my friends do and they are like: Cmn, try! Please! But i won't, but is it bad so be saying no if the agency might ask? I really don't want to smoke, it's a promise to my self, but if they want me to i don't want to struggle. Do you know what i mean?

I think that was all for know! I really appreciate all the time you gives to answer questions. This wasn't so much about Victoria's Secret, but i hope it's okey!

Love your blog, you're a big inspiration of mine! Hugs to you, you're worth any happiness and sucess../Josefin

Hi Denise! I have got to say I am absolutely OBSESSED with your blog. This was exactly what I was looking for when I was surfing the Internet for a look inside what it's really like to be a model not some sketchy shows , bad YouTube videos or  company releases. And woohoo! I found it and girl am I hooked. I check up on this blog every few days just to see if there's a new post and I end up reading all of the new ones even if they're directed at male models haha. ( I hope I'm not getting annoying at this point) so I'll just get to the point , yes I am another one of those ( for lack of any other words) wannabe victoria's secret models that knows nothing about modeling. I know you're probably thinking to yourself Oh no, not again, haven't I answered everything VS related already??? and yes actually you have.  So I have submitted my plain photos to Elite and Ford just yesterday and in waiting on pins and needles here. I know I shouldn't be getting my hopes up or falling into a some anxiety attack because boy oh boy  the chances are so darn slim. I heard that if elite honestly wants you they reply to you in like a day , I'm not sure if that's true but if it is then wow I just blew it. I do have some ( more like a bagillion) extra questions

- does VS , Ford, Elite or any other modeling agency care about shoe size because I see these 5'9" models with like size 7 feet and. Think to myself how??? Do they just shove em in there or something? I'm at 5'8" and at a 9.5 and a size 10 shoe size ,  its kinda my secret but seemingly stupid insecurity- my big feet
-when I don't get signed to ford or elite not that I don't think I could handle it but I'm being realistic, is there any other route I can take to get VS?
-why do modeling agencies take eye color so seriously if there are contacts nowadays ( I know this is totally off topic but it just came to me and I'm really curious but I'm guessing it defies the whole natural beauty look lol)
-oh when I don't get into elite or ford would it be a bad idea to wait a year or two for myself to grow and mature ( I'm only 15 so maybe some cosmic big breast genes will kick in, haha) and then send in my new photos again? Can I maybe do it sooner or is a one shot per person type of deal?
-okay last thing my body ratio is 33( stupid 34A breasts) 26 (waist) and 35 (hips) I know that this isn't anywhere near VS standards but what can I actually change here to get to the ideal ratio if there is anything oh and what type of body shape would this be , no one has ever been able to tell me so they just say plank. Not sure if that's a shape but alrighty then.

Thank you so much
- with love Dominique

Dania Denise said…
Hi, Anonymous! There isn't any way for me to help with your situation...I have no idea what your genetics are like or whether you'll end up growing taller. Your doctor would be the best person to ask about how tall you could be once you're done growing in the next few years. At this point, you literally can't do anything but wait and see how your body develops naturally. Only then will you be able to see if you meet the requirements once you turn 18. So just be patient and enjoy being a teen...it doesn't last long and adulthood is forever! Also, being a VS model has a short life span...there's so much more to modeling than Victoria's Secret to look into other types of modeling to pursue as well. Never put all your eggs into one basket.

Hi, Anonymous! Unfortunately, your height is what will prevent you from being considered as a VS model. Unless they change the height requirement, this particular type of modeling won't be a realistic possibility for you. :-(

Hi Dania,

First off I want to thank you for all the information you put out here, it is great to have all these questions answered. I was wondering about photoshop though with all the articles going on lately, do the VS angels have "real curves" or do they photoshop them in? Im a 34B and would love to transfer over from IMG to Elite/Ford but curious if my chest is big enough?haha I was to embarrassed to ask that in person:) Thanks!! - Julieann

I'm 13 years old 5'11 and my measurements are 33-21-34. I appear to be around 19 years old. I have been told I look to mature to model for teen clothing and I am unsure whether to wait until I am 18 or to try and sign to a modeling agency straight away.

Hi I am 13 years old and I am bout 6"1 could I still have a chance for vs
Dania Denise said…
Hi, Fabienne! You're only 13 so currently you cannot be considered for VS until you are 18 and if you meet the other requirements listed in the blog post. If you don't meet ALL of the requirements specifically listed in the blog post, then you cannot be considered for VS.

Hi,

So i actually work at a VS store in Chicago, and really would love to model for VS, but i'm 19 and stand only at 5'6. Being close to the required height doesn't matter, i presume? i've got the curves but definitely am not growing anymore!
Dania Denise said…
Hi, Eve! Unfortunately, you guessed right: being close to the height requirement isn't enough to get in. Plus, at 5'6" you're much shorter than what Elite and Ford in New York look for...they set their minimum height requirement at 5'9". :-(

do you have to be from usa to be a vs model, can you be from the united kingdom, because miranda kerr is australian.
Dania Denise said…
Hi, Anonymous! You don't have to be from the USA to be a VS model. You can be from another country but you have to be willing to relocate and live in New York in order to work for VS.

HeyDania ive been starting to think of modeling . I know I'm only 16 but it interrests me and everyone I know says I have a nice body, I have curves and a bubble butt;P but I'm only 5'4 my boobs aren't that big either to be honest. 34 B But is there lots of agencies that take in girls my height? I know VS is out of my league unless a miracle happens and I grow to 5'8 . But does vogue and stuff go for models my height?

Hey Dania! I recently came across your blog looking for tips for an open call and you can be sure I'll be looking on this blog daily, it's great! Okay, so I have a few questions plus I'll tell you a bit about myself:
I'm 19, between 5''7 and 5''8, African American Irish and Portuguese, I have naturally green eyes, I am naturally very skinny (very fast metabolism haha) my measurements are 34C, 24, 34 and I currently live in New Jersey on the shore, but if I get signed to an agency I have a place already set up in NY that I can live with a family member. Oh, and tomorrow (the 12th) Wilhelmina is holding an open call that I am going to, which is why I'm asking even though you won't answer in time. And my main goal is to be a Victoria Secret model haha. Okay, so my questions:

-for future reference since i won't be able to use it at this casting call: i have short black hair but i have worn wigs for a few years now and i personally think i look better with wigs but everyone tells me i should go without, which would you advise to go with? wig or without

-i have two scars on my right leg (one is about the size of a silver dollar, the other a dime) they're keloids from mosquito bites i had when i was younger (im allergic to moquito bites, its rediculous) i'm wearing pants for the open call but what would you advise? cover them up? seek medical attention to have them removed?

- I'm literally just under the line for 5''8 and was going to send my pictures out originally as 5''7 but no one wants a runway model at 5''7. a friend of mine told me i would be better off just saying i was 5''8 to get my foot in the door, but i thought dishonesty was a bad way to go. what would you do? i have extremely long legs and look taller than i am in photos and in heels, thats another matter, i look like an amazon.

I feel i have exactly what VS wants when it comes to models, i'm tall, not overly curvy, nice chest size, long legs, and i'm an African American with green eyes which i think would be a fine addition to their collection haha. i have never set foot in a gym so if i did work out im sure my body would be above and beyond what it is now. any tips and or pointers?

and sorry this is so long I just have had no one to talk to about this ever!

Hi, Anonymous! At 5'4" and at your age, you should look into agencies that represent commercial/print models. Unfortunately, Vogue and other high end fashion publications don't work with shorter models for its editorial and other types of fashion spreads.

But if you want to break into modeling, you'll be more successful by seeking out an agency to represent you for commercial/print.

hey diana:) my name is tiffany. i'm from malaysia, and i wanted to ask u about the VS modeling. the only requirements i can't fix it was i don't have any model agency here, i am planning that after graduate i might be taking a flight to new york VS for interview next year. so isit hard for me going without an agency?
Dania Denise said…
Hi Tiffany! Unfortunately, VS does not have "interviews" for its models. So you will not be able to do that if you fly to New York.

What you will have to do is try to get signed to Elite or Ford in New York (or another top fashion agency that works with VS). If you do plan on flying to New York, it should be to attend casting calls for Ford, Elite and other fashion agencies, not trying to interview with VS.

You can't be considered for VS without a modeling agent.

HI, I'm Rayannon and was reading about being a Victoria secrete model. I'm 16 and saw that you have to be 5'8". I'm only 5'1" but have been wanting to try anyways. I don't have an agent but was wondering if you think i could still have a chance. I am athletic and have the perfect body for it and would love to inspire girls out there too. Should i even consider going to new York for an open call at Elite or Ford?
MissLaena said…
:/ I am only about 5'6" and 1/2". Does that mean that I don't have a chance? I have tan skin which gives sort of an exotic south american kind of look (but I'm actually black & white), and I have the body.
Dania Denise said…
Hi, Rayannon! Unfortunately, at 5'1" Elite and Ford in New York--as well as any other high fashion agency--won't even take a second look at you because you are far too short, compared to their minimum requirements.

I know of models that were 5'7" who went to Elite and Ford and the agency staff literally took one look at them and said, "Sorry, you're too short." They didn't even look at their snapshots or anything...they literally dismissed them once they saw that they weren't at least 5'8". Agencies have a trained eye and can spot the difference...even if it's only one inch--they're that good.

In your case, VS isn't going to be a realistic possibility for you. You would be better off trying to get into commercial/print modeling with an agency that is willing to accept models shorter than 5'5".
Dania Denise said…
Hi, MissLaena! As my post says, if you aren't 5'8" minimum or 5'9", which is the minimum now for Elite in New York, you cannot do VS.

Hi,I live in New Zealand, I've really wanted to be a model ever since I could talk now I am 14. I have had some modeling jobs but now I live in the country and we have no modeling agencies here in nelson,nz.When I am older I'd like to be a victoria's secret model but how can I work my way up?
Dania Denise said…
Hi, Anonymous! In your case, by the time you turn 18, you'll have to be willing to relocate/move to New York in order to submit to the agencies there that can get your foot in the door with VS.

Having some previous modeling experience works in your favor but don't feel like not being able to find an agent where you currently live will put you out of the running.

What matters more than experience, is being located where the action is, which is New York. So your goal until you get old enough, is to plan to make the move to New York (if you want to do that) and work on what snapshots you'll plan on submitting to the agencies there.

Nothing can really happen with VS until you actually live in New York and have access to the agency representation needed to get things going.

Hi, I'm so happy to have come across your blog. I am in desperate need of some advice. I am an aspiring model age 27, and wondering how to get started in the world of modeling. I am aware that I'm too old for high fashion etc but I really just want some advice on how to get my feet wet in commercial modeling. I've had so many scam agencies trying to exploit money off me by claiming I need to pay ridiculous amounts of money for a portfolio.

Please help!!!!

Hi! I'm savannah, Im 14, 5'9, 32,26,35. I know that I'm too young for Vs right now. But I live in Houston TX do you think at all. If i have a good agency or a top one that vs would find me?? How could I be found and how can I become a better model. This is my dream and I want to do this for a living so very badly.

Hello, right now I am 14 years old and I really want to be a Victoria's Secret model when I get to the age where I can, but I have no idea where to start. I do believe I meet most of the appearance requirements except height. I'm 5'4. Do you have any advice for me?
Dania Denise said…
Hi, Savannah!

Here is my advice for you...VS isn't the type of client that would find/discover you in Texas. You have to be where the action is, which is NYC. That is the city where they recruit their new girls from.

Until you turn 18, I would suggest finding a top agent in Texas to get your modeling career started. That way by the time you're old enough, you'll have experience, a good portfolio put together and a stronger chance of getting an agent in New York. The agent you get now (if they are good) will guide you through the process of learning how to become a better model. Those skills only come with time, lots of practice and dedication, which you have plenty of time to achieve get until you are of age.

Remember, you will have to move to New York City in order to obtain agency representation there in order to potentially get submitted for any VS casting calls.

Good luck!

Hi, Anonymous!

Since you're only 14, I would recommend trying to get signed to an agency within a 2 hour's drive from where you live that represents teen models and/or commercial/print models. That will be a great way to jump start your career and you don't need previous experience/training as a new model, or professional pictures/portfolio. Agencies prefer non professional, digital snapshots from new and inexperienced models.

The first step is to go online and find the official websites of as many legit modeling agencies as you can (remember, they should represent teen and/or print models). Their websites will list instructions for how to submit yourself, as well as what kinds of photos they want. Make sure to follow the instructions for each one and hopefully you'll catch their interest.

Unfortunately, if you aren't at least 5'8" by the time you turn 18, VS won't be a realistic possibility for you. 5'9" is actually the preferred minimum height for potential VS models in New York City so if height doesn't run in your family, VS won't be in the stars for you. But even if that doesn't happen, you can still pursue a career in commercial/print since you are on the shorter side.

Modeling & Pay Rates: How Much Should You Charge?

(This post is more targeted towards freelance models and not those with agency representation, although it may apply to those that have an agent but continue to find their own work.) A part of being a successful model is making money from the jobs that you book. However, being a freelance model comes with many challenges--figuring out what you should charge is one of them. I will say upfront that there are no established black and white rules when it comes to pay rates. Each modeling job is different, each client is different and budgets vary. Ultimately the factors that should influence what you charge should be the amount of experience you have, the strength of the images in your portfolio and the client's budget/needs. Not every client is going to pay what you want to charge. There may be times when you will be skipped over for charging too much or taken advantage of for charging too little. It's going to happen so be prepared for it and do not take it personally. It

What Are Male Models Supposed to Look Like?

The modeling world is filled with women. That's never been a secret and sadly, that often means male models fall by the wayside. There are successful male models in all categories across the industry but the fact that the modeling business revolves around women can make it challenging for newbies to figure out how to pursue their goals of male modeling. It is important to know that because there are different types of modeling categories out there, that means there are also different types of male models. They aren't all supposed to look alike and what ends up being in demand does change every year. Let's break down the common attributes that come with male modeling in various popular categories, shall we? THE MALE FASHION/RUNWAY/EDITORIAL MODEL These are the typical types of models most of us tend to think of when it comes to men in modeling. What is important to know and understand if you're an aspiring male model is that agencies have all different looks

Modeling and Weight

One of the first things I hear potential models ask is what the weight requirement for modeling is. Sometimes that is the main issue they worry about when it comes to pursuing modeling. Let me tell you right now that weight should NOT be one of those concerns. Obviously, the height requirement reigns supreme when measuring up to the modeling standards sought out by agencies. If you meet the height requirements--whether it's for fashion and runway or commercial/print--that is the first step towards starting on the path to modeling. How much you weigh shouldn't be your biggest fear. It is rare that anyone can look at someone and say, "Oh, my gosh, he/she looks like they are 5 pounds over our weight requirement!" It just isn't realistic. If you look at many modeling agency websites, they clearly list the age and height requirements--rarely, if at all do they list any weight restrictions. The general rule of thumb when it comes to weight is that for models who
